Unique Indoor Comfort-Northbrook

I am writing to share my very positive experiences with Unique Indoor Comfort. I have found them to be very capable and responsive, even in peak demand situations. Their office staff and ownership are absolutely top flight. Service technicians are efficient, courteous, on time and very considerate of our property They stand behind their work and are very ethical in their business practices.

Our family in Northbrook has been a customer with annual service contracts for many years and we can always rely on Unique Indoor Comfort to be there when we need them and keep our HVAC systems working properly.

Dan, the co-owner, came out to quickly to review our home and gave us a very fair price to install whole house air conditioning in our radiator-heated bungalow. His offer was also the least complicated and expedient of all the bids we received. Carl and his crew of two could not have been more professional and sensitive to our home and needs when working.

We were constantly kept updated of the process and changes during the installation process. They were incredibly respectful of our home and us and cleaned up each night, including vacuuming, before they left. As promised, within three days the job was complete and has worked beautifully throughout this steamy summer so far. We had some follow-up questions and both Dan and Carl answered them quickly and completely. We highly recommend Unique Indoor Comfort. Seriously, we wish there was a 5+ star option!

Dave the technician is very professional, hard working, and stays until the job is done. Lee in the office is very friendly and communicative, explains the pricing (which is reasonable) very clearly and they're were no surprises.

Let me start off by saying thank you guys for helping me out. They installed my sisters heating & AC. Alex and Carl the installers were VERY professionals. They knew exactly what they were doing. Alex explained the whole process & cleaned up the space. I will totally call next time and ask for him for any future services. He did a phenomenal job on the furnace metal. For being only 22 years old, he has a lot of experience. I know he will have a bright future working with Unique heating and cooling company.

Prompt, reliable, trustworthy and just downright awesome. We've used Unique for the past 10-15 years in every house we've owned. They've always given excellent service and I've never questioned their expertise. Highly recommended, I wouldn't trust anyone else.

Excellent service. I have never had a problem with getting a message returned or a service appointment. They work to accommodate my schedule. The technicians are polite, clean and honest. I have been a customer for over 26 years.

Called Ed/Edward Danzach this morning for a cooling system install quote. He called me back and was extremely unprofessional in his response. He quoted me an extremely high price without even looking at the property. He told me that they are very busy and they are charging high prices now because "they can get away with it now because it is high demand season for cooling".

When I told him that price was too high he started yelling and hung up the phone. Sounds like they are a scam company. Avoid them at all costs unless you want to be ripped off.

We used this company to install a Unico cooling system in our 1930's home and had a wonderful experience with them. Dan was very knowledgeable about the system and was very nice to work with. His crew of guys who did the install were very friendly and left ZERO mess. Their price was even better than two other companies we talked to. I am very impressed with Dan and the team of workers and would give more than five stars if I could. I highly recommend this company!

Unique Indoor Comfort provided superb communication and action in a very complicated installation of AC for a very old building. They were recommended by a professional - and I am happy to pass on high approval of their skills and attention to detail. A bit expensive - but well worth the cost!

Had Unique Indoor Comfort install a new Unico system for my home. Dan was great at explaining the system process from start to finish and their technicians were some of the cleanest workers I have ever seen! They came in cheaper than 2 of 3 other quotes and we were completely comfortable with their ability to install a system in our "tough" home. Couldn't be happier with our decision to use Unique Indoor Comfort. Highly recommended!

We were selling our home and wanted our furnace and AC checked to make sure it pass the home inspection. Unique came to our home preformed the service maintenance check and the technician was were very professional. So who do you think I called to service my new homes equipment. I would highly recommend Unique Indoor Comfort.

We've used Unique in two places. First in a vintage coop that required some interesting soffit work and second in a land mark house that required some artful snaking of jet pack tubes and the installation of air handling equipment in a pretty tight attic space. Ed Banczak also came up with radiant heating solutions for two rooms that were very cold because of the large number of windows in each, and this winter has been much more comfortable than last, when we first moved in.

If you can deal directly with Ed (the owner) on business matters, do. We had a number of miscommunications with the office and with a couple of their service techs before Ed straightened things out. As for their installers, thumbs up. Kevin and Steve were wizards when snaking pipes of various kinds through this old house and were extremely careful when carrying some of those huge parts through the house, making sure that nothing got scratched.

Very unsatisfactory service. We called Unique because our furnace was not staying on. The first service technician spent two hours floundering with controls, and even rewired components to bypass damper and thermostat controls -- but he left, making no improvements. Another tech from Unique came the next day. He got the furnace to stay on, but then it would not shut off.

He left screws and PVC pipe on the floor and he left without checking to see if the thermostat would shut off the system. We called another firm that got the system back up and running. All in all the work was ineffective guess-work. Not recommended.

Unique Indoor Comfort has helped us out once again! This is now the second house they have installed a whole house humidifier and really saved us from the winter dryness. They also saved us at our last house with a new Air Conditioning unit as well. The whole staff is great and the guys in the field still amaze me every time they come out. They really know their stuff and are as polite and clean as can be.

We have gotten a lot of work done on our house and this is in the only time we haven't had to clean up a mess after work has been done. Thanks as always and look forward to the next time we need your help! You guys are THE BEST!

Unique installed a high vol air conditioning system in our older home that has radiator heating. Just a pleasant experience from the start. Dan was great, informative along with a quote that killed the competition. The installation team was professional, quick and very respectful of us and our home. Why would anyone go elsewhere? Unique is the one to call.

These guys were prompt, responsive, friendly, and technically competent on my emergency furnace service call to them. With nary a furnace issue in my 4 years at this home, sure enough on the coldest day of this winter, I have no heat mid day on New Year's Day. Funny how it always happens like this, but in a way it was fortunate timing in that the incident at least occurred after all of our planned holiday gatherings!

I spoke to a Mike on NYD late afternoon, and over the phone we troubleshot and eliminated my Nest thermostat as an issue. Mike was very helpful and empathetic and also ready to come out that evening for an emergency call if I chose so. He was clear on the holiday emergency service call costs, and after reviewing possible scenarios, holiday parts availability, and us risking going overnight with no heat (fortunately we have space heaters that were a big help in this emergency), I opted to go for a next day regular workday asap appointment. Frank came out at about 10:40am, which was a very good time slot given the flood of calls Unique Indoor Comfort (Northbrook) got over the record cold weekend and that morning for no heat service calls. Pat, the office lady had called me early that (and this) morning and scheduled me, and later also called me to let me know Frank was on the way about a half hour before his arrival (nice of them to give me status I thought). Frank was a friendly, honest, and very competent technician and methodically and quickly diagnosed that I had a bad limit switch.

He then went out and got the part for me and I had heat my mid-day. I was completely satisfied with the promptness, quality, courtesy, and cost of this emergency service call. Frank also readily gave me the $35 internet coupon discount I found upon perusal of their website. I don't really know what the going rate is for the competition, but I suspect they are right in the mix for a quality outfit ($75 service call fee, plus $43 per 15 minutes time rate) and I highly recommend these guys.

Cost isn't as big a factor when 1) I feel they are honest, 2) they are prompt, and 3) they are technically competent. To boot, both Mike and Frank were empathetic, helpful, and friendly.

Unique did a terrific job installing central air for us in the spring of 2017. At the same time, we talked about a problem on the opposite side of the thermometer. Our kitchen was always cold! Despite a "to the studs" remodel that included new insulation and stacked baseboard radiators (we have hot water heat), it was hard to get the temperature above 68 on really cold days.

My wife hates being cold! Unique looked at the problem and explored a couple of different options. They came back to us on the first possibility and said they just couldn't generate enough BTUs to heat the space using that one. The second solution was a toe-kick heater and creating a separate heating zone for the kitchen. We went with that one.

The same two installers who did our air conditioning did this project. They were outstanding once again. Steve identified an issue with one radiator at the end of the day and wasn't certain he had solved the problem when he had to leave for the day. He called me the next day to be sure it was right. It turned colder about two weeks after the installation.

After 32 years in our house, I heard words from my wife that I could never have imagined; "I have a cozy kitchen". My experience with Unique is that they are clear and precise in detailing what they plan to do. They aren't the necessarily the lowest priced alternative, but they are fair. They deliver on their promises. I would recommend them to anyone.

These guys are real pros! We have a two story stucco house that is 110 years old. It has hot water heat and casement windows. Central air conditioning has always seemed really challenging and prohibitively expensive. These guys made it happen for us. Ed came and did a very thorough job of assessing what it would take, explaining how it would work and arriving at a reasonable price.

When Kevin and Steve arrived to do the installation, they continued the great service. They were friendly and pleasant, unobtrusive, and clearly very competent. If it weren't for the sound of the power tools, we would have hardly known they were in the house, and they did such a good job cleaning up we told them that if they ever got tired of installing air conditioners they could go into the cleaning business. We'd recommend this company to anyone.

Wow the honesty is amazing. They gave us an estimate when our upstairs was 10 degrees warmer then downstairs in our new house. It was almost $800 and included a fan. When they came to do the work he realized they had the wrong vent and the fan was not needed. He was honest and told me it was only going to be $250. Knowing he could just install the fan and bill me I'm so impressed by the honesty. Will continue to give all my future business and recommendations to Unique Indoor Comfort. A handful of years back Unique installed 2 A/C systems into a rental building my family had in Niles. The installation went well, the price was fair and the job was clean. Other than some routine matiaience, the systems continue to work well today.

HORRIBLE INTERACTION WITH OWNER! Scheduled a repair for my furnace. The problem had been diagnosed the last time Unique had been at my house. At that time, they said the necessary part was not available, but they got it working until the part came in. Months later, after no follow up, the part finally quit. We called and the serviceman was nice enough, but "was told" to charge us for a diagnostic fee, service fee, part fee and hourly labor rate to install the part.

When we called the office to discuss the double charging for a previous diagnosis AND second service fee, the owner was extremely rude. He apparently doesn't care about repeat business. He did give us a 10% senior discount - less than removing the fees would have been - and said "You don't sound like a senior, so you better just take it." If you don't want to be insulted or ripped off - stay away from Unique in Northbrook!
