Highly recommend Herchenbach Mechanical for your HVAC needs in Lake County. They are family owned and operated. A few years ago, my old AC from the 1990s was in need to be replaced. I decided to go with Herchenbach Mechanical after comparing a couple other places in the area. Scheduling an appointment was easy. Curtis and his team came over and installed the AC unit fairly quickly.

They were very professional and courteous. Fast forward to a few days ago, my kid decided to throw pieces of chalk down the pipes. I called Herchenbach Mechanical to schedule a time and date that works for me. They will email and text you to confirm your appointment. On the day of your appointment, they will also send you a photo of the technician that will be over. Adam, the technician, was very friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and on time.

I told him what happened and he explained what he would need to do to get the chalk out from the pipes. I also scheduled them to clean my AC as well. After Adam finished using the hose from the backyard, everything was neatly put back the way it was. He didn't leave anything out or left a mess. When he was inside the house, he would immediately put on those disposable shoe covers without me having to ask. Herchenbach Mechanical has always provided great, friendly service when I needed them. I have nothing but good things to say about Curtis and his team. Again, highly recommend them! You won't be disappointed.

Mike showed up in a mask, on time, worked quickly and efficiently. I received a text with a picture of the technician and his qualifications ahead of time so I knew who was coming. Very professional.

My AC stopped working. Called them and they answered (other companies let it go to voicemail and may or may not call you back). Got scheduled right away and the tech was on time. Worked quickly and confidently. Problem solved and price wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Came out sooner than they anticipated. No air during horrific heat wave, repaired in no time, reasonable charge. My heroes!

After a quick call, with Matt, I texted a video of the noise/smell my heater was causing an initial analysis (only had to call back since i was putting my 2 year old to bed). We re-connected and his diagnosis was 100% accurate, purely from watching a :15 video. I was able to personally remove the filter (apparently filters can get sucked in - check motor for filter if there's a burning smell / bad noise / vibration occurring with your heater) and fix the problem without needing a professional (savings probably $300).

On top of the savings, he saved us a headache! It was 7pm, took only 15 min (clock started from first call), AND the inconvenience of staying with a family friend for the night since it was 10 degrees (2 kids + dog)! Moral of the story. Used them twice, once for servicing the furnace and once for diagnostics. I prefer my business goes to someone local when possible, and that's the reason I used them. Five stars for scheduling, and for transparent pricing ($89 for servicing, and $89 for diagnostics). For servicing, it was a routing call (annual maintenance). However, they do not change filters while servicing a furnace (slight bummer since I was used to getting the filters changed during annual cleaning with my earlier servicer at my previous address).

I was willing to overlook that. For diagnostics, I called in because my room was colder (5 degrees) than other rooms in the house. They came in and said that's not unusual because the room is over the garage. I wish they had told me that over the phone instead of coming in and charging $89 for that. That's a very expensive diagnostics. That wasted time, and money. I hope they have better processes in the future.

Curtis came by to check out some issues with our A/C. He diagnosed the thermostat as the issue and suggested upgrading to a smart system. The entire process was flawless. This is a family business that does things right. We have a new thermostat working perfectly and when the time comes to finally change out our 24 year old systems, Herchenback will be our first call!

In 2016, we had Curtis Herchenbach out to service our old A/C unit to keep it running for another year (it was 17 years old). He never pressured us to upgrade. This spring, we decided to replace the old, undersized contractor model furnace and central air. Curtis and his team were in and out in one day and the result was a huge improvement in cooling capacity.

House was more comfortable this summer than it had been in years, and our electric bill was lower. Very fair pricing and excellent installation. We highly recommended Herchenbach Mechanical.

Great service. Came out at the beginning of the Summer and replaced a condenser when 3 other companies wanted to sell me a new a/c units for thousands. It's been 3 months and no problems! I've held off reviewing just to make sure the a/c was fixed. Happy customer.

I just had a furnace replaced, and am very happy with the quality of the work. Curtis is a pleasure to deal with, and really works hard to make sure his customers are satisfied. He predicted my furnace would go out, and I tried to ride the season out with the old furnace. When the furnace died, as he predicted, his company was able to replace it quickly and with good workmanship. He even stopped by afterward to make final adjustments. This is a solid company. I can't tell you what wonderful service I received today from Herchenbach Mechanical today. I had major surgery a week ago and my husband had not gotten around to looking at the furnace that was quitting about once an hour. The person who answered the phone (very nice) asked if I could wait until Monday (it was now Friday afternoon) and I said yes, but she asked how often it was going off and she found someone who was out in 45 minutes. The repair bill was very reasonable even with such quick service. I was also happy that 24 hour service was available.

Super reliable, professional and honest heating and air company. Last summer I was having issues with my A/C and they sent someone out very quickly. The technician was very friendly and professional and explained everything clearly. The pricing was very reasonable and I didn't feel pressured to pay for anything extra. Also, I'm a licensed home inspector and I recommend them to my clients in the Gurnee/Libertyville area who need heating and air work done in their home.

Herchenbach Mechanical is a family owned Gurnee business that has done a great job servicing our home furnace and air conditioner since 2011. We have been on their annual maintenance plan and enjoyed excellent service, especially on weekends and winter nights when the furnace circuitry indicated an error code and failed to heat. They also improved the efficiency of the furnace they inherited from another contractor, with clever and cost effective improvements in ductwork and intake/ exhaust pipes. Curtis and Mike can be trusted to make a correct diagnosis, have the needed parts, and make the needed adjustments quickly and with courtesy. It's a pleasure to work with them, and I recommend Herchenbach without reservation. 5 STARS!

I lost my heater over thanksgiving and had a competitor come look at it. Instead of fixing the $45 part the tech spent an hour trying to sell me $5500 in a new furnace. When I wasn't biting, he started to look for reasons why I needed a new furnace. He than preceded to point out my heat exchanger was cracked and we were all going to die tonight if I didn't buy the new furnace.

After asking if I could just replace the heat exchanger, he finally relented and said it was still under warranty. But, wanted $1600 to replace it. Reason for failure on thanksgiving was a simple pressure switch. I called Herchenbach and they came out the next morning and took care of everything for a fraction of the cost. They said my furnace was fine were in and out within 90 minutes. 5 star service and I was impressed enough to sign up for their yearly maintenance plan for both my AC and my Furnace. Nobody tried to upsell me on anything and they were very prompt and professional. I shall recommend them to all my friends in the area.
