It's finally here! E.T. Lawson has been in business for 100 years, and we couldn't be more proud of reaching this milestone. We send a great deal of gratitude toward all of our customers throughout Tidewater Virginia and our reliable staff for their contributions to our success. E.T. Lawson's long history began in 1919 when we opened for business in our present location. At that time our customers were the fishing fleets of Hampton Roads. We sold them marine goods, groceries, and as the fleets converted from sail to motor power - petroleum products. Approximately ten years later, I.E.

Had heat go out on a cold weekend night so called to get it working. to their credit, a tech came out same day, got our emergency heat working and gave us an itemized list of things to fix on Monday. asked us to call then called on Monday to set up the appointment to fix the heat and had the single worst most aggravating conversation ive ever had with their receptionist, who refused to believe anyone had been out, accused me of making things up, and told me nothing i was saying made any sense. Im a pretty easy going guy and Ive never had someone be so rude or aggressive on a simple service call.

Eventually she got mad at me, told me shed "never dealt with anything like this in 35 years" and that they were too busy and that we should just call another company. so we went with A1 American who was out same day and fixed the issue. Sorry to paul the tech who was great, but horrible horrible office staff which led to a completely bizarre and completely inappropriate phone call.

Called to get some information on work that was previously done only to have to deal with the rudest and most unhelpful person on the other line. 100% would not recommend the service. Honestly if anyone is reading this, I'd really truly suggest finding somewhere else to get the work done.

We have been doing business with ET Lawson since 1993. Not only do they provides a great service, but what impressed us the most, is the owner, Mr. Allen, interacts with customers personally. If you have any questions or concerns, he takes the time to ensure that the customer is satisfied. No matter who we speak with on the phone, they are very professional, courteous and friendly. Also the team that was sent to our house today, Oct 13, 2021, was courteous, knowledgeable and completed our problem in no time. We highly recommend ET Lawson.

If I could give 0 I would. Don't go here unless you want an almost $900 when you end services after only using them for 6 months while also paying $142 a month. Doesn't make sense and when asked for an itemized invoice to break down charges they give you a blanket amount. Nothing but crooks.

Service update. We had service Thursday saying they would return Friday with fan.by the way no Heat/air.no show, no call on Friday. Called Saturday since cold night.they came and replaced fan but again no heat in the evening. Called Sunday. Owner says to Secretary to tell them to wait to Monday. Wonder why Owner didn't call us since we spoke to him on Saturday? Horrible customer service. They are committed to service families? Really? -- with Curt Lang.

ET Lawson just did an encapsulation of my attic and room over the garage. Trying to get my home more energy efficient. They did a great job! The team, led by David, was professional and courteous. They were in and out in the time allotted and left no mess at all. Whole House generator is next on the list. Great company - will use again!

This company has always been Top Notch during the 23 years we have used their services. We moved into our house in 1996 and they immediately went to work improving both systems. Technicians are very courteous and clean when inside our home. Thanks ET Lawson for the great service.

I've been listening to this company advertise via radio in the Hampton Roads area for years. They sounded very knowledgeable and professional on the radio; so I finally decided to give them a try. I asked them to provide their free test of my home's air duct efficiency. On the scheduled day their technician arrived on time and proceeded to hook up his equipment to my main register and plug up all my vents.

I was busy on the phone with a friend so I didn't have a chance to pay close attention as he proceeded to block all the vents. After running the test the technician reported my duct system was operating at barely 60% efficiency. He described a service where they spray a product into the duct system which automatically plugs up any holes up to a quarter size.

The service would cost well over $2,000.00. He practically guaranteed this service would significantly raise my efficiency and probably save me up to 40% on my energy bills. I asked him about a product/service warranty, which he said was 10 years. He then proceeded to disconnect his equipment then unblock the vents. I was off the phone this time and followed him to every vent.

When we got to the kitchen we discovered he had missed 1 ceiling vent. He looked somewhat embarrassed, then he told me that one vent wouldn't make much difference in the test and my ducts were still very inefficient. At this moment an alarm rang in my mind! This person felt comfortable charging me over $2,000.00 for a product/service, based on a test which he conducted incorrectly.

Instead of offering to redo the test he simply left for his next appointment. Everyone makes mistakes; and I would have understood if he told me he was running late to another appointment, but he would schedule another time (convenient to me) to come out and redo the test. But instead he took the lazy way out. After all, it was his mistake, and the professional thing to do (in my opinion) would have been to redo the test then or at a scheduled later date. There's an old and very wise adage that if you can't trust someone with something small; you very likely can't trust them with something big.

In my case the "big" was a $2000.00+ service. When E. T. Lawson advertises on the radio; they use buzz phrases like; - been in business for 100 years - someone you can trust - we stand behind our work - you can never tell with some companies - etc., etc., etc. Well, in this situation, E. T. Lawson couldn't be trusted to do their test correctly; they didn't stand behind their technician's work, because I tried on two occasions to call and explain what happened.

The first time I was put on infinite hold (I hung up after 6 minutes of holding). The second time I was put on hold again, then hung up on after about a minute (I haven't tried to contact them since). Obviously in this situation, it didn't matter that they'd been in business for 100 years. And I agree with their statement that you can never tell with some companies, i.e. INCLUDING THEM!

Another interesting item, is some simple math regarding what the technician told me. His quoted price for the service was about $2,400.00, If I assume he's right about a resulting 40% savings on my energy bill, that would be about $40.00/month (i.e. my average monthly energy bill is about $100.00) or $480.00/year. In ten years that means I would save $4,800.00/year. However, the product/service is warranted for 10 years. So, if I have to redo it after 10 years, that's another $2,400.00 (only if the price hasn't risen over 10 years). That's comes out to a net savings to me of a whopping $0.00!?!

Excellent company! They have been in business for 100 years so they must be doing something right. E.T. Lawson gets a lot of positive calls every Wed at 6pm on 790 WNIS so if you think their not that great, why would a radio program allow them to be on there show all of these years. E.T. Lawson may not be perfect but how many companies are these days.

They make mistakes just like anyone else, however, they take care and fix that mistake to make it right, whereas others don't. You can look at many reviews from many different kinds of companies but how long have they been around and will stay around and keep taking care of their customer. I'm glad ET Lawson is here and for the negative naysayers, spread your negativety elsewhere.

It's not like we already have enough of that today in our country. To sum it up, if your not happy with them spread your remarks somewhere else and I hope your happy there. Thank E.T. Lawson and keep up the good word.

We use ET Lawson for everything from heating to plumbing. We have never received any but excellent service from the schedulers to technicians. Again today we received wonderful care. David Major was informative and offered excellent customer service.

I am giving E T Lawson 1 star because that is the lowest possible for a review. E T Lawson refused to look at my 96 year old mother's furnace although they replaced parts in the past, leaving her without heat when high temperatures were predicted to be 30 degrees or less. It wasn't just they wouldn't come that day, they refused to come out at all. The part was one month out of warranty. Do not recommend this company at all. Very poor service.

Service is OK, but fuel oil prices are very high. Look elsewhere for fuel oil if you can.

BEWARE! They charge ridiculous prices for heating oil. We used them because the prior owners of our home did and had no idea how excessive their charges were. We got an insane bill after we'd been out of town with all thermostats off for two of four weeks in the billing period, and I called. I got zero explanation and no adjustment. I called FIVE other heating oil suppliers and each was at least $.60/gallon less than Lawson. Ultimately, we switched to Phillips, service is better, we have more billing options, and our bills have dropped from over $900 per fill to around $509 per fill. Don't use ET Lawson! I still can't believe we used them for over a year and wish we had our thousands back. Pure price gouging.

I also wish I had done more research before hiring ET Lawson. We had them for everything, and they are just horrible with their communication. First off, we needed a hot water heater replaced, and were given options on the tankless heater. With what we were told, it was worth the money we paid. Unfortunately, what we were told is not what we got, and we were very disappointed.

For additional equipment and fees, we could get what we were told, etc etc. Next, we had a problem with the kitchen sink sprayer, and the first person said it was the sprayer itself, and we could save money to just do it ourselves. We replaced it, and it did not work. The next person told us it was the gizmo in the faucet, and we could just do it ourselves, and we replaced it, and it did not fix it.

Each time was a service call. Finally, the manager came out, and we ended up buying an entire new setup, and at least the sprayer works now. We also purchased the plumbing contract for maintenance. HUGE mistake. They called to set up the appointment, and of course, want a 4 hour window of time for you to be home. So I missed work, and waited, and no one showed up.

I called, and they had made a scheduling error. I get mistakes happen, and they were very apologetic, and fit me into the schedule for an agreed upon day of Friday. Again, a four hour window, and I waited, and again, no one showed up. I called, and it turns out, dag gone it, they had a plumbing emergency come up and we were last on the list. Why were we last on the list when we were suppose to be the ones they were making amends to?

Why didn't they even bother to call? So the lady did not know why, but asked if I would be home for another hour or two, and I told her no, I would not, and she said oh well. I asked her to figure out a way to make this right, and to get back to me. That was a week ago. Today my husband called, and said we had a plumbing emergency. They took his number, and after 3 hours no one has even called him back. So now I don't even believe that the reason they didn't show was for an emergency. Do yourself a favor, and DO NOT USE ET LAWSON.

If I could give a negative 10, I would. So we called ET Lawson out because the 8 yr old unit that they installed (not the first call, BTW), wasn't cooling. Service guy said was a $345 computer board replacement. Oh. Ok. After 3 hours, the temp was 87 in the house. Called them back. It was refrigerant now. $556. Service guy couldn't replace it because the unit was "too hot". Sat in his van for 2 hours and then proceeded to yap at us for another half hour about his stint as a security guard with the Hampton a City Schools. Came back today and in 4 hours time, we are back to 85 degrees in the house and counting. Unreal.

I wish I had read the other review under ET Lawson Contractors to save myself aggravation and time. This company apparently has a communication problem. I spoke with Mertle today explaining I'd like to get a bid on an out of service 18 yr old heat pump for replacement. When also explaining I wouldn't be there (out of state) but the realtor would and that if we selected ET Lawson we'd like the work to start on our closing date of 1 June, he just said they had plenty of customers now and didn't want to waste his time. I guess if this company has the luxury of just maintaining the status quo you might want to look elsewhere first. Steer clear of ET Lawson.

Why is it that things like to break at the worst possible times? Our furnace conked out on a weekend, of course. Compounding things, the weather was at it's meanest: sub-freezing temps expected to keep a thick sheet of ice on the streets for days to come. And yes, it was a long holiday weekend. A triple whammy. I put in a call to ET Lawson, just to let them know I needed help, not really expecting anyone to put their life on the line to make a service call until the streets were clear.

To my happy amazement, Paul, the service guy, was at my door just a couple of hours later. "Bad news though, " he reported. A part was badly damaged and a new one had to be ordered. Apparently my "blower wheel" was an odd size. The company would be closed until Tuesday. That meant we'd be without furnace heat until Wednesday at the earliest. We had company that weekend, meaning we needed to keep things comfy and warm for a 15 month old great-grand baby and a 92 year granny.

I started making plans for alternative heat: we had a nice fireplace and we rounded up some space heaters. God is good! I could not believe it when Paul returned THE NEXT DAY. He had an idea. Thinking out of the box, Paul took my broken part to a different supplier, found a generic match, and got our old furnace up and running again. His efforts saved me a ton of money (no overnight shipping, not having to purchase the whole housing, but just the part that was broken).

It also saved me a great deal of work (keeping a wood fire going non-stop for 5 or more days and nights.) I really can't express how pleased we are with the excellent service received from ET Lawson. Paul really went the extra mile--and through the ice at that--to make sure we were safe and warm. God bless them!

I am torn, I hate posting negative comments, the service calls have always been good. They have fixed the issues and more. Getting fuel delivered is always a joke. I should have canceled the contract ages ago when the driver left the gate open and I spent days scouring the neighborhood and local shelters for my pets. I found them thank goodness. I do not see why simple instructions cannot be followed.

I just found out that these habitual issues time after time were never addressed or noted. I have ran out of patients in talking to the office, dispatchers and more and lack of concern to strive for excellence in the industry.

I have been a customer of ET Lawson for years and cannot say enough good things about them. Their staff is courteous and professional, and on call seven days a week. I've had them make repairs to my AC system and oil heating system and have been very impressed with their quality of work and pricing.
