I had a split system installed by Cottam. Blake got the process started and Vin and Hector did the installation. Throughout the seamless process, everyone was responsive to questions, and made sure that we were familiar with the new equipment. Their workmanship was professional and everyone was pleasant to work with. I would not hesitate to recommend Cottam in the future.

I used to do all the maintenance myself before having to move to the west coast. Knowing I have a contract with Cottam Heating and air definitely is more reassuring knowing the HVAC system in my house is in good hands. Do not use this company, they come to fix one issue cause another and then charge you to fix the second issue. They will tell you that they will not charge you to come fix it but since they have your credit card on file they will charge you without your permission. Further more, they are extremely unprofessional and rude.

We had Cottom install a new boiler and heater to replace ancient units in the house we recently bought. I had the pleasure of initial consultative conversations with Blake Cottam who was both knowledgeable and candid. We then had Felix and Joey did the install, which was quick and tidy and painless (on Thanksgiving eve, no less!). I'd have no hesitancy recommending Cottom or using them again myself.

Blake was extremely professional and thorough in reviewing alternatives and helping us select the right gas boiler for us, and the team replaced our old high efficiency boiler with a new one quickly and efficiently when we needed it. Omar is excellent.

This an updated review following a new installation in my home December 2021. Last year they helped replace a older system in another part of the home. The team at Cottam installed a larger central heat pump unit to replace the previous central a/c system and provide a dual heat system for max efficiency including a separate ceiling cassette for an additional zone.

As with previous work with Cottam I appreciate their level of communication and availability. From the initial inspection and quote for services I was offered intelligent options and felt I was educated as to the value of each option. This level of communication extended throughout the project from scheduling thru multiple days installing a customized retrofit system.

Even afterwards while setting up the wireless control system. Every member of the team was knowledgeable, polite and proficient. Each took initiative to speak with me about their part. Every technician takes pride in their work and seems invested in a good experience. I very much appreciate Blake addressing all my questions and his efforts to make sure we got this system online and working appropriately for my particular set up. Fantastic level of service and true commitment to the job.

The level of work and materials was also top-notch. I am thankful to the whole team for working hard, staying late and make sure everything was functional. Even the electrician who was recommended was prompt, efficient, communicative and helpful. I hope to have many years of comfort and confidence in the system that was installed and with their continued guidance at future maintenance checks.

Thank you to the whole Cottam team! A year ago: Extremely responsive customer service. They seem to have a professional and close knit team from the technicians to communications and management. Just bought a new house and inherited the mistakes of the previous owners. Cottam guided me thru install of a new ductless system and maintenance of an older boiler.

Their techs never seemed rushed and all took the time to explain my options. This helped me to appreciate the value in either servicing or replacing a equipment (even when it meant more money in the short term). As a point person and manager Christine has always been professional, helpful and fair. Blake was great for identifying my technical needs and answering questions. Juan is a standout technician - experienced and informative. I am happy to have these guys as a local business.

We just had seven mini-split units installed around our home by Cottam HVAC, Inc. Blake, who was very patient and knowledgeable, walked us through the project and helped us to make decisions. We had multiple meetings with him and never felt rushed or pressured. Our installers were George and David. We could not be more pleased with the manner in which they worked throughout the house.

They were polite, neat, considerate both of home and home owner, efficient, and took pride in their work. George and David communicated with us on a regular basis and kept us informed of their progress and future plans. We would highly recommend this company for the quality of their work and their professionalism.

Had my furnace replaced today. The installers (Terrance & David) arrived on time and finished in just a few hours. They were both knowledgeable and friendly and explained things about the new unit and cleaned up after themselves. Afterwards another technician (Juan) came and installed and programmed my thermostat. Price was satisfactory as I did receive multiple bids from other companies for the same unit.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I have never dealt with a less knowledgeable, more unprofessional company in my life. They literally have no idea what they are doing. For years my boiler wasn't working correctly, giving off so much heat where I couldn't even use my finished basement. They kept charging me for service visits and not fixing the issue.

They were about to charge me another $600 for a new filter which they claimed was the issue. Luckily I called a different company (I don't know why I didn't do this years ago) and they fixed the issue right away. And the issue wasn't even with the filter that Cottam was about to charge me for! Cottam installed the boiler and had no idea how it worked. Take my advice and avoid this company at all costs!

My wife and I live in a house that was in need of an A/C upgrade. After a professional and thoughtful evaluation by Austin, we decided on a ductless A/C with supplemental heating. He was thorough and, without pressure, offered us several alternatives at various price points. He was very responsive to our questions and concerns, and worked closely with us on a final decision.

The installation was done by George and David, two thoughtful and professional technicians who did their best to minimize the disruption (one of us works at home). These two could not do enough to make us comfortable with the installation -- thoughtful is an understatement! (I would hire them in a minute!) Finally, when it came time to start the system. Miguel (aka Mike) provided us with a thorough overview of the system and answered all of our questions in a patient manner. His knowledge of how the system works is nothing less than amazing! Kudos to Cottam for hiring such great people and holding on to them!

Great, professional and responsive HVAC company. Cottam installed a ductless mini split heat pump and AC system in our house. The communication was great, the end result looks a functions great. This is truly a five star company and I could not recommend them more highly. From the office workers, managers, workman to the owner everyone was clear, friendly and efficient. We have been using Cottam for our HVAC and heating for many years. They have been very systematic with our maintenance. With recent flooding with Ida, our furnace went out. It could not be fixed till they received parts. Though I did call a couple of times, they automatically arranged for someone to come to install the parts. I'm sure it's been hectic for them after so many with flooding. It's just nice to have a company who follows up on their word.

We have an old stucco house with good bones. Blake and Mike took the time, listened to our requests, and designed a hybrid system of ducts and split units to meet our cooling and supplemental heating needs. The installation team was top notch. They treated our house with the highest respect. The office handled the opening and closing of the required permits with our town. And, they know how to navigate Con Edison's various rebate programs. A great experience. And this summer at home with the new cooling has been fantastic.

Disclaimer-- I may be out of touch with the current prices for a leak test (not finding the leak or repairing it). Cottam came out to perform a leak test on my Daikin wall units. I have three units in the wall and one condenser outside. They attached materials to the condenser outside and came back a few days later. They found that one unit had a leak but they did not search or find the leak and they did not repair the leak. For the leak test alone I was charged $1535.00. The next step of finding the leak they told me would cost $600.00 an hour.

Jeff Kauffman, field supervisor for our air conditioner installation, was excellent from start to finish. He was patient and articulate, answering my endless questions and made sure all of our issues and concerns were resolved before the job was done. I wish I could remember the name of the man who performed the installation, because he was terrific. My air conditioner and heat pump are about a week old and everything is working well. We plan to stick with Cottam for annual maintenance.

HORRIBLE! Customer Service started off great - Tech came in to diagnosis the problem and stated that we needed a new motor. At first they said we needed to wait 2 weeks for the part to arrive but once we let them know that we would try to find it ourselves all of sudden a part miraculously became available for an installation later that week. The tech was in our home for over 4 hours and seemed to have no clue what he was doing!

The owner Gary had to sit with him via facetime for much of these four hours. The tech was verbally and physically abusive towards our tenant and my husband. He even told us that "we would all die in our home" because the the furnace was sending out C02 due to a "crack" - - Yost and Campbell arrived soon after for an emergency appointment and confirmed that there was NO CRACK nor any C02 issue and confirmed that could fit us in the day after. GARY, the owner of Cottam, ended up coming the morning after only to confirm that THE COTTAM TECH HAD INSTALLED THE MOTOR IN BACKWARDS!

We were told that we wouldn't have to pay the remaining balance because of the horrible inconvenience but low and behold a few days later they charged us over $300 anyway and refused to refund us the funds! PLEASE STAY AWAY!

I couldn't be more disappointed with the lack of service by Cottam. I hired them for a routine boiler maintenance and they did not verify the heat was working before they just left. When I called to ask them to fix the heat they were extremely rude. They sent someone back out the next day but charged me extra for it and they still didn't fix the heat.

So in my experience I was overcharged and treated very rudely and I still don't have working heat. I will not be using Cottam again for anything and would not recommend that you do either.

I was very pleased with my last two heating and air maintenance visits which were performed by Randy, a very knowledgeable and able technician. He answered all my questions and was very professional. I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars because I rarely give 5 stars - I reserve for truly exceptional service, but I've been very satisfied with the service from Cottam over the years.

They have been great! They put in our HVAC when we moved 13 years ago and have been maintaining it ever since. They charge for a yearly service contract that includes 2 preventive maintenance visits. It does not include parts. Because we had a contract with them when our AC went out (bad condenser) they came out the same day. Another time our heat went out due to a duct problem and the president came to diagnose the problem after the first tech could not fix it.

Even though the problem was caused by the original construction of the house they were able to diagnose the issue and recommend an excellent duct work company who fixed it in one. Their technicians are on time, neat, knowledgeable and pleasant. I highly recommend them.

Because of scheduling difficulties, Jonel R. filled in for my regular guy who maintains our AC system (we have a contract), and I found him to be excellent. It quickly became obvious to me that he takes his work seriously. Rather than just changing out the filters, he took the time to check out the air handlers to ascertain that there were no leaks, clogged drain lines, etc.

He was also very "neat" and wore disposable gloves so that he would not leave black fingerprints on my white access panels in the ceiling. Very happy here--Jonal takes pride in his work and is a true professional.

We've had a service contract with them for several years and have used them for an Implementation of an ac unit. They have come a few times when we had heating and hot water issues and were always timely, courteous and most of all-knowledgeable. We always have professional and courteous technicians. Gary, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with and Juan, the technician, was very knowledgeable and helpful.

We were very pleased with Cottam for our repair work and servicing. In one day, they were able to fix our system while being courteous and super friendly to our nosy dog : Jose helped us with servicing and likewise did an excellent job. We would use them again for any future projects.

Despite having an existing retainer/contract with Cottam (which is a complete joke), AND being promised they'd be by that day to deal with a broken furnace on a freezing cold night, they failed to show up and then argued over the phone about it. Add to this the fact that they completely misdiagnosed my problem and then couldn't care less about that, this place gets a zero rating in my book.

We renewed a service contract held by the previous owners of our home. Not once when we have needed urgent service has Cottam had a technician to us within a reasonable time frame. Sometimes not even the same day. I have 3 small children and we have gone without AC in heatwaves and without heat in the dead of winter. When the techs do show up, they often don't have the necessary parts in the truck.

I still have 6 months on my contract but will pay another company so I can actually get reliable service. Avoid. Update: Our scheduled tech failed to arrive. Turns out no one ever put us on the schedule. So an after hours emergency tech arrives and quotes us $300-$400 to replace a blown transformer. Our invoice was $479 for parts only. We were at day 3 of no heat and in the middle of putting our kids to bed. Turns out these parts retail for $20-$60. These guys are crooks. Would I have received a more honest price if I had known better and challenged him? Shame.

Cottam Heating & Air Conditioning did a great job servicing my office. Our tech person was Nigel he came in a good time and was very efficient. Just on suggestion your techs should have name tags. I forgot his name and there was no where for me to look at to remember lol

The courtesy & professionalism we received from our installer, Terrance, was off the charts! He communicated everything every step of the way. He made sure we were ok with the placement of everything before starting the work, He cleaned up after himself. He made adjustments to ensure we were absolutely satisfied with everything he did. He showed up early & stayed late to get the job done as quickly as possible. He is a true asset to the company! We would deal with Cottam again & again if we could keep working with Terrance!

We had Cottam install several brand new units. They are super expensive and will charge you for every little items. Clearly a family business that does not care about their customers and just seeks near term max profits. They came in to service units twice related to settings. No communications between their staff and so had to repeat things (and charge for it repeatedly).

Their technicians have highly variable levels of technical expertise and skillset so be prepared to get different views from each. They will call Chase Cottam (manager who is related to the family that owns this business) and he also won't recall prior conversations even though the notes reflect prior experiences. They are not coordinated, not professional, and not helpful and highly expensive.

In their view, each visit is a max profit opportunity and do not try to charge based on actual service delivered. They will charge you hourly even if they actually do not get anything done during a visit.

Our family has had a service plan with Cottam for 10+ years and has been very happy with their great service, which include their very accommodating management and their hardworking technicians. Apart from the annual maintenance of our heating and air-conditioning systems, we also used them to replace an AC condenser/handler and also a hot water boiler/tank.

They are very professional and go out of their way. Just recently we called them because we thought we had a leak in our boiler and Omar the technician came out in the morning (with the receptionist very kindly inserting us in the schedule as the first appointment). It turned out we (or our kids' playing) accidentally caused the issue. Omar fixed the issue and we were not charged. It's great to know that Cottam appreciates customer loyalty and we appreciate their continuing great service.

Yes, I am one of those people who didn't read the review of this company on yelp before calling because I was rather desperate. I have a Trane AC/heat until and I found these guys on the Trane website as a recommended vendor. BIG MISTAKE! They come to my apt twice and did a bunch of basic stuff, change air filter, clean water filter. They charged a TON of money and did essentially nothing to actually address the issue. about $1,300 dollars.

They blamed the building water cooler for not supplying water which is why my compressor was not working. I called another company and this dude came in and figured it out in 15 minutes by changing the capacitor on the unit. Turns out the capacitor was going bad which cause my unit to have issues., Cottam couldn't figure it out after two visits with three different guys and pissing away $1,300 dollars of my hard earned money. If you use these guys, it's SHAME ON YOU, not them.

A few weeks ago while rummaging around in my attic, I inadvertently knocked over a suitcase and it fell near my air conditioning compressor. I picked it up but didn't notice that I had accidentally loosened one of the pipes. A few days later my wife called to me when she was watching television in our bedroom. She thought she noticed something bulging in our ceiling.

When I came to take a look, I could see what looked like a big water bubble forming in the plaster ceiling and I immediately ran up to our attic and saw that the water pipe that connects to our compressor had become disconnected. OUCH, I knew it was my fault but I wasn't sure if I had done any other damage to the compressor, so I called our heating guys, Cottam Heating and Air Conditioning and asked if they had anyone who could come over and check it out.

Since my wife and I work, and while I was being a little neurotic, I asked if someone could come that night. It was after 9 at night and to my relief, the dispatcher assured me someone would be at our home within an hour. The Cottam guy showed up and examined the compressor and after checking and adding glue to the pipe, felt that the compressor was in good working order.

And then to my surprise after looking at our bedroom ceiling, asked if we would like Cottam to arrange to have our ceiling repaired, at NO CHARGE. I thanked the repair man and told him that I think the mistake was mine, but he responded that Cottam Heating takes full ownership of the work they do, and wants their customers to be happy. I had a customer for at least twenty years and I was blown away by this incredible offer.

The following week, Cottam arranged to have their painter come and patch the ceiling, then a week or so later, he returned to paint the area around the light fixture. A few days later I received a call to see if I was completely satisfied and while I felt embarrassed by their generosity, I did point out that I could see where the ceiling had been repaired and was it possible for the painter to do the entire ceiling and that I would even pay, since I didn't want to be unreasonable.

To my shock and amazement, the manager said that if I was patient, he would arrange to have the painter return and paint the entire ceiling but it might take a few weeks. A few days ago, just before my wife left for work, she received a call from Cottam asking if they could send someone over to complete the painting job. We made arrangements to have someone in the house and when we returned home from work, we had a completely repainted bedroom ceiling.

I have been a loyal customer of Cottam for many years, but never did I imagine that I would receive this kind of customer service, especially since I was the cause of the problem. I'm sure there are many heating companies to choose from, but you might ask your heating & air conditioning company, will they repair a leak caused by your negligence?

And will they take responsibility for the cost of the repair just to keep you happy? Cottam moved up in my book as the classiest company I have ever had the honor of being associated with! And if you are looking for a company that really goes the extra mile, you might seriously consider giving them a call.

My partner and I recently purchased our home on City Island and as a contingency to close, the seller of the property has to purchase a service contract from Cottam. Let me give you a little background on this horrible company. This company has been servicing my houses' broiler for more than six years as the previous home owners purchased a yearly contract from these people to service the broiler regularly.

So we had the service contract on the house which included a yearly cleaning and servicing of the broiler. Prior to closing the seller had Cottam had "clean" the broiler as well. We later found out this was not done but they sure charged the prior home owner for it. The day we moved in the broiler mysteriously broke. I call up Cottam and they do arrive that day to look at the broiler.

The repairman that came to our house was an asshole at best. He tapped the ignition module with a wrench and says, "that needs to be replaced. Since we are changing the ignition control module we should change the gas valve as well." He writes me up a service ticket and is on his way. He told me I would be receiving a call later in the day to let me know how much the parts and repair would cost.

He also stated that I would get 15% off the cost of the parts since I had a service contract. After three days and no call I had to track down the jackass in the office by the name of Chase who is the "manager." He tells me it would be $1,300 for parts and labor, minus the 15% I would have to pay $1,105.00 plus tax. I was floored. I took the recommendation from the seller of the home to call Yost & Campbell as he signed up his new house with them because after six years he was tiered of dealing with Cottam as well.

I called them, they came out the next day and found the ground wire from the ignition switch had been ripped off. A couple days later as they needed to get another part and $275.00 and my broiler is up and running like new. Chase and his crew at Cottam are absolutely nothing more than thieves and try to take advantage of every person they come in contact with to see if they can squeeze more money out of them.

I am not stupid, so I will get several opinions before I handover my credit card. I know they are the only HVAC company on City Island, but I would recommend not using them for anything. I would rather wait a day for Yost and Campbell and not be ripped off rather than have this HORRIBLE company charge me more than $1,100.00 for something that costs less than $300 to repair. You've been warned.

I had a problem with my central a/c system about 5yrs ago and had several companies come out to take a look, and no one seemed to know what was going on. I had gotten Cottam's name from a neighbor of mine and tried calling them on his recommendation. Let me tell you, from the time they answered the phone, to when the service tech arrived at my house, it was the most pleasant experience i had had with a service company.

Not only did they fix the problem that no one else could, but they found other issues i didn't even know existed.

Needless to say i have been with them for about 5yrs now and i have been more than satisfied with Cottam. I would recommend them to anyone, and in fact i have, i would like to take credit for them now servicing most of the people on my street in Larchmont NY! I just wanted to take the time and point out what a great service they provide. Keep up the good work!
