I highly recommend Steve and Cost Plus Heating & Air. My furnace stopped working, even after another furnace company had come out to fix it. When I called around to get service, everyone told me it would be at least a week before I could get a repair. Steve was able to get out the next day, identify and fix the problem. He also explained why the problem occurred.

Other furnace folks have told me that my furnace needs to be replaced due to its age, but Steve said that it's a good furnace and could run for several more years. Music to my ears! Finally, the cost of the repair was very, very reasonable. I cannot recommend Cost Plus enough. Thank you Steve for helping us stay warm over the holiday weekend!

Steve installed a new heater and AC for us in our new home this year and we can't say enough good things about the entire experience. Because of supply chain issues outside of Steve's control, our units were delayed. Steve helped fix up the existing AC to keep our house as tolerable as possible during the awful summer heat and then found an alternative unit to keep us going with AC ahead of the second big heat wave.

He even showed up during the first heat wave (with 115 degree temps!) to try to fix our AC even though he'd been working almost 24/7. He got us set up with a heater to keep the house comfortable until our new unit finally arrived, and then came ASAP to get everything installed. We would give 20 stars if we could--thank you so much!

At a difficult moment - busted furnace - Steve from Cost Plus swooped in and saved the day/winter! His old-school dedication, professionalism, and tenacity looking for the right fix for us was really inspiring. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

They did a great job installing Central AC for us. They were booked out quite far, but that's every good contractor these days. Steve's quote was competitive, and he did not go over the quote even though supply/shipping issues meant he had to order a different unit than originally planned.

If you want straightforward professional no-BS contractor, these are the guys for you. I appreciated that Steve was very upfront about the pros and cons of the central AC system we wanted to install so we could make an informed decision. We installed a mini split in our attic bedroom and central AC downstairs; Steve and Connie were very patient, answering all my questions and talking through multiple options with me. I appreciate his pragmatism and that he doesn't try to upsell or push more expensive equipment unnecessarily. Despite being very busy during the summer season, he usually answers his cell phone and is gracious about any questions/concerns.

I know I will be able to count on him to help if anything malfunctions and for regular maintenance calls. He rebuilt our existing furnace system to accommodate the height for an AC coil, and did a very tidy job. His team (including Mark and Emmanuel) were prompt, professional, and courteous-- using drop cloths throughout the house and cleaning up all refuse and old equipment. I recommend his team to anyone in N Portland looking for quality installation and equipment at a reasonable price.

If you're on the market for a trustworthy and reliable heating contact look no further. Steve and his team were life savers to us! As new home owners in a pandemic it was difficult to navigate getting good help that was also affordable. After our furnace broke in November we tried to go through our home warranty and were matched with one of their contractors who did absolutely nothing for us, we waited for 10 weeks with no heat in 40 degree weather.

Out of desperation we decided on an alternate route and we found Steve. Within 2 days he had a quote and timeline for us. He was honest, friendly and straight forward and even got us upgraded to a mini split without breaking the bank. His team got the job done in half the day and were super respectful, even showed us in-depth how to use the unit before leaving our house cleaner than when they arrived. We'll be Cost Plus customers for life! Can't recommend them enough! (Copying our post from YELP because this company deserves all the shout outs I can give)

--We have used Cost Plus for Furnace repair, thermostat installation, AC installation and tankless water heater installation. Consistently the best price, high quality and prompt service. When we have had our furnace go down in the past, they have always found a way to fit us in and get it up and running again. Steve and Mark both come across as very knowledgeable and trustworthy, with no BS or upselling. The majority of our neighbors use Cost Plus as well. Highly recommend

God Bless Steve at Cost Plus. Woke up to my furnace not working this morning during a huge snow and ice event. Steve's cell number is on the voicemail at Cost Plus. He answered (on a Saturday) correctly diagnosed the problem by phone for free (frozen condensation tube) and told my husband how to fix it. Problem solved!

Impressed with how professional and reasonably priced my experience has been to maintenance my furnace and fix some air flow issues. Very knowledgeable. And very thankful for some simple advice that helped my freezing bedroom be warmer. I wish I had called sooner and not froze every night for a decade! I can not believe how simple the fix was. And I learned when you have an older home, do not assume anything is done correctly and big problems can have relatively easy fixes.

We called to get our system serviced and was told that they were 3 weeks out, no problem at all. After no contact for over 5 weeks we called again just to make sure that we were on their radar. Still no response after two weeks. We will give our business and money to someone else.

I was referred by a friend who had Steve install their AC a few years ago, and raved about him. Steve came by two days after I called to get a quote for adding AC to my furnace. He is was up front and not pushy. After a few quotes, I went with Cost Plus. He and his son, Mark, came the next week and installed the AC, fixed my vents that were old and damaged, replaced my 1997 water heater, and told me everything along the way that they were doing.

They went ABOVE and BEYOND and had to spend a good time in a creepy crawl space under my house. I am not house savvy at all but I felt they were honest, straight forward, efficient, tidy, and cat friendly. Connie at the office was awesome to work with on the all the documents, payments, scheduling and my many questions. THANK YOU!

In the process of a kitchen remodel, a faulty PGE equipment failure caused a high voltage burnout of my gas furnace. My remodeling company's HVAC sub tried and failed to get my furnace up and running and told me it had to be replaced and gave me a quote for a new furnace for $5,800. I saw that Cost Plus was one of the approved vendors of new high efficiency furnaces qualifying for a rebate, so I called Steve and he came out the same day after 5pm. Basically, he took one close look at my furnace and asked me why hadn't the previous sub been able to repair it.

He gave me tons of useful information about the purchase of a new furnace but kept coming back to the idea of a possible repair for my furnace. I eventually agreed he should try to repair it, handed him the keys to my house and left for my dinner engagement and when I came home I had heat and a written explanation of his work and what I needed to do to keep it operating properly during my remodel (uncover and protect the intake air vents).

Instead of selling me a new furnace which I was pretty intent on accomplishing, he repaired my furnace! Instead of spending thousands of dollars I had a repair bill of $240! Steve was incredibly knowledgeable, an excellent communicator of technical information and a skilled repair person--oh, and obviously very honest with high integrity. I can't recommend him enough!

I had *such* a great experience working with Steve and his whole team at Cost Plus. This guy really knows his stuff, is completely honest with you, and extremely professional. I am so happy with our new furnace and so happy we went with Cost Plus. While installing the furnace, we discovered that one of the bedroom vents had not been connected to the heat previously. Steve and team were flexible and able to fix this issue affordably. I can't recommend them enough. You will not regret working with a professional and getting a high quality furnace that will be working perfectly for years to come.

Fine install but kinda ghosted me on followup, answered the phone 2-3 times "I'm on a job but I'll call you back tonight." Never did. At one point he said Oh we need to get your permit you know, and I was like I think you're confusing me with someone else? We did get the permit. Very strange. We finally went with a different company for tune-ups.

This was over the course of one year drifting into the next with the same experience and we wanted to do maintenance and keep, you know, costs down. I see others on here with concerns like gas smells and he wouldn't return voicemail. Like I said, no complaints on the install - reasonable, made all the right recommendations and adjustments. Real odd. We're going with Jacobs right now, they return calls. Sorry to be a downer.

I couldn't be more happy with Steve's service. Not only did he diagnose the problem with my heater, that I needed a new hose and that a pressure switch was faulty but that my board was fried as well. It was an old board that isn't made any more. I was thinking about how much I would have to pay on eBay to find a new one. He said "don't worry I bet I have one in my shop". He dropped it off an hour later and the furnace fired right up. He was so kind and explained to me how everything worked. Can't say enough nice things.

We had two other repairmen come look at our air conditioner and both tried to tell us that it needed to be replaced. Steve had it up and running within 20 minutes. It was honestly a pretty difficult to get him booked, I assume because he is one of the only skilled heating and air experts in left in Portland, but once we did get him in to work on our air conditioner and furnace problems, it was well worth the wait.

On top of fixing our air conditioner, we ended up having him install a new furnace and he and his crew were timely and neat. I also felt like the price was reasonable for all of the labor completed. My advice is not to waste time and money on other companies that just want to bill for coming out to your home and or hit you with huge bills for installs, just call Steve from Cost Plus.

Steve and his crew are fantastic. You can tell straight away that customer service is important to them. Cost Plus installed central AC in our new home. They showed up on time and were courteous. They respected our home and were done in the time they told me. When they were done they explained everything that they had done. Already have Cost Plus Heating and Air lined up for another job at our house!

I honestly cannot say enough good things about Steve and Cost Plus heating and air. I have dealt with Steve and his company twice, once for a repair and once for an installation of a mini split in my old Portland home. Both times I dealt with Steve, he was ON TIME (how often does that happen anymore?), professional, kind, and both times went above and beyond.

I always like the idea of supporting small, hard working, local companies. I received 2 other quotes for the mini split and Steve was right on target with the other quotes. In a nutshell: Great service, honest, timely, hard working, and local. The best!

This was the best service interaction we have done on our home. THE BEST. Response time was so fast, and when Steve came out to quote our job he did two things other salespeople have NEVER DONE: 1) he explained how others would try to upsell the job, and 2) he didn't bag on our current furnace situation (which everyone else did). I like that!

He was honest and didn't have to give us a "gloom and doom scenario". The install of our AC was so fast and I can say OUR HOME IS CHANGED FOR THE BETTER. Cannot recommend them enough!

Can't say enough good things about Steve from Cost Plus Heating and Air. We have had to call him twice to service our heater for our vacation home in N. Portland. Both times he has come out quickly and taken care of the same problem, this last time explaining what we can do to fix it ourselves. So happy to have someone we can depend on!

I would definitely recommend Steve. I had a few estimates from the big companies and one from Cost Plus. Steve was the only one who actually opened my heating system to look inside and his quote included servicing the unit and cutting vents into the closet, which was badly needed, but no other company even mentioned. Unlike the other companies, which send a salesperson, Steve gave my quote and did the work along with another person. He worked efficiently and left everything clean.

Impossible to get ahold of. Left them two voicemails weeks ago. I'm sorry, but I don't hunt down people to give them $10-12k for a new system. Multiple neighbors recommended me to them, but I just can't do it.

Steve is awesome! He made himself available on short notice in this crazy heatwave to fix my furnace/AC. He arrived exactly when he said he would. His final bill was at the low end of the estimate that he gave me. He was honest, professional and courteous. I would definitely hire him again.

I really wanted to do business with Cost Plus! The serviceman that came out to my house was very nice. I was requesting an estimate to add an AC unit to my FAG furnace. He said he would get back to me in a day or so. I wasn't in a big rush so I waited two weeks. Then I called the main office, the receptionist said she would notify him to call me.

The next day I got no call. I then called the salesman's cell phone and he asked me to send him an e-mail so he could attach the estimate to it for return. Never got the estimate! They just lost out on a $5,000.00 deal! Let the customer be aware.

Good product. Decent prices. Good installation. BAD customer service. As far as customer service goes, Steve's skills aren't the best. In person, when we got our intial estimate and installation, he was friendly enough.a little gruff, but a straight shooter, which I appreciate. His follow up communication skills have been very poor. When we hit a snag with the permitting process, I received a very crass, unprofessional email from him that had all the phonic construction of someone yelling into their mobile device, expecting SIRI to turn his trainwreck of wordsmithing into an angsty haiku. I'm no dummy, most mistakes involve both parties, so I wrote him back and tried to explain my half of the mistake was honest and non-intended (much of the blame was in fact, our electrician) and that I would do what I could to fix it.

I also asked him to be more professional, in which I received another really blunt, (yet slightly more restrained?) email that was so confusing and grammatically screwy, it sounded as though someone was trying to voice text me while having a stroke. You could write this off as a single incident, or that we are "needy" customers (which we aren't), but our communication with Steve after the estimate and installation have been very similar.this incident only aggravated it. Don't know if the dude needs a vacation or just a giant nap, but Steve only gets 2 stars from us based on unprofessional customer service.
